Hi everyone!
Welcome to a (late) March update - a LOT of information coming your way for the next few weeks so lets get right into it....
Showcase
Our Team Showcase is being held this Sunday, March 19th. All Level 1 and 2 gymnasts will be in Session A, which begins at 11:30am, and all Xcel and DP Levels 4-7 will be in Session B, which begins at 1:45pm. Gymnasts should arrive at the gym 15 minutes before their scheduled session in their competition leotard (and black shorts, if they want them.) They will receive their 2023 States t-shirt from their coaches at the showcase.
All family, friends, neighbors, etc. are welcome to come so please feel free to invite as many people as you want! Also, all gymnasts are welcome to come early or stay late to help with the other session - we always need help moving mats and team cheerleaders! We will also be honoring our graduating seniors at the end of the second session.
Spirit Week
By popular request, we will be having a team spirit week at practice in the week leading up to states. I have attached the flyer here with the daily themes - team gymnasts are encouraged to dress with the theme for their scheduled practice days, but it is not mandatory. They should keep in mind that they will still have to practice, so they should either wear an outfit over their leotard or incorporate the theme into their gymnastics wear.
State Championships
The main event is upon us! State Championships will be held next weekend in the Rec Center at Rhode Island College - the full session schedule is attached. Please make sure your child arrives AT LEAST 15 minutes early, and brings their t-shirt that they will receive at Showcase. There will be an admission fee, and it will be paid through a ticket purchase on Eventbrite like last year. I am working on those details and will get them out to you as soon as I have them.
All gymnasts participating will get a leotard and a participation medal. Awards are done similar to most meets we have had this season - the girls are separated evenly by age group and awards will be given to the top 50%.
Regionals qualification is available for Xcel Silver and above, and DP Level 7 and above. In order to qualify to Regionals, a gymnast must place in the top 7 all around WHEN ALL AGE GROUPS ARE COMBINED (and in the case of both Gold and Silver, both sessions have been completed.) Rhode Island will also qualify a small number of additional gymnasts that typically place 8-10th as individual competitors. As you can imagine, this requires a very high all-around score (think 37.0+), so we stress with the girls that this is not necessarily the end goal - we want them to remain focused on doing their best at States, regardless of score.
If you have any questions about how things work, please let me know and I can walk you through it!
New E-mail, Website, AND Team Portal!!
Lastly, you'll notice that I am coming to you from a brand new e-mail! We have released a brand-new website, and with that, new professional e-mails! You can now reach us for all team business here at team@sportkidsgymnasticselite.com. We will still be responding to the gmail address (they all forward here) as we make the transition. If you need Amy for any general gym business, you can reach her at info@sportkidsgymnasticselite.com.
Also along side the new website, we have a new Team HQ! If you go to www.sportkidsgymnasticselite.com and click on "Team Portal" (under the "Competitive" tab up top), you will be prompted to enter a password - the password for everyone is teamskg (all lowercase). Here, you will find all kinds of information, including an archive of all of these e-mail updates, meet information, and more as we move forward! This page will probably change and evolve depending on what season we are in and what we need it for, but hopefully this will be the best way to keep as much information at YOUR fingertips as possible! And, please, if you have any requests or suggestions for what would be helpful to have please let me know!!
Phew! That's it! For now at least...as always, if anyone has any questions, concerns, curiosities - please either come find me in the gym or send me an e-mail and I will be happy to help!
Happy (almost) States week!
